Type Locality and Naming

Northern Guangdong border to Hunan. The Lechangxia Gr was named by the Nanling Party of Regional Geological Survey, Guangdong Bureau of Geology in 1958. The typical section is situated in Wushui Gorge in Lechang County, Guangdong Province.

Synonym: (乐昌峡群)


Lithology and Thickness

The Lechangxia Gr, consisting of the Bali Fm and Laohutang Fm, was considered to be a flyschoid clastics deposited in a shallow sea. The lower to middle part is composed of greenish gray and bluish gray sericite quartz sandstone, sericite-arkose intercalated with sericite silty slate, sericite slate, etc. The upper part consists of pelitic sandy chert; and the uppermost part is dark gray and purple red siliceous slate. In the typical area, it is 2750 m thick and thickens to 4399 m in Gushui of Guangning County where it contains more chert and carbonaceous shale.

Lower contact

Bottom is not exposed. Next older regional unit is the Yingyangguan Gr.

Upper contact

The top conformably grades into the Cambrian (Bacun Gr)
